Doha, capital of Qatar is commonly referred to as the 'City of Balance'. While it joins the ranks of being one of the fastest developing cities in the world, it keeps its traditions and culture very close to its heart.

Located on the east coast of Qatar in the heart of the Gulf, Doha is the major commercial centre of the country, and holds the main port. Boarded by the calming Corniche bay on one side, and the golden sands of the desert on the other, Doha is an alluring blend of cultural and contemporary lifestyle.

Many international bodies choose Doha for conferences and seminars, World Trade Organisation Conference and the annual AIPS Congress for sports journalism. In addition, the city has turned itself as a major hub for sporting events in the region after hosting events such as the 15th Asian Games, Football Cup (Under 19's), Athletics Grand Prix, Tennis Open, Golf Masters, MotoGP, ITU Triathlon World Cup and the 3rd West Asian Games among others.

During the day, the gently curved 7.5km Corniche is a paved waterfront lined with palm trees, overlooking the bay. This is a popular escape from the city where locals and visitors alike are seen walking, jogging or just enjoying the view. At night, a magical world appears with city lights illuminating the sky and wooden dhows glide silently through the glistening waters.

In December 2006, Doha was in the international spotlight when it hosted the 15th Asian Games, and event that confirmed its reputation as the sports capital for the Middle East. Tens of thousands of competitors and spectators were in Doha to experience the largest celebration Asia has ever seen.
